Ladies Finish 5th out of 11 Schools, Annie Carlson Takes Down Four Indoor School Records

Today our ladies competed very well at a very competitive Argo Invitational, hosted by Argo Community High School. This was the fourth meet of the season for many of our ladies, and outstanding performances were turned in across the board, with many new personal records set. Here is a list of all the highlights from today's meet:

Field Events:

  • Kayla Weatherly and Sarah Bayne both competed well in shot put. Kayla threw 28' 11", and Sarah threw 25' 4.5"
  • Sydney Pardy, in her first attempt at competing in high jump in her career, cleared 4' 4", good for ninth place.
  • Annie Carlson broke her own indoor school record from last year (32' 10", at Reed-Custer) in the triple jump with a jump of 33' 3", which earned her a fourth place finish.

Sprint Events:

  • Sarah Bayne ran 9.08 and Bayan Daoud ran 9.48 in the 55 meter dash prelims.
  • Annie Carlson broke her own indoor school record (9.04, set at Plainfield North) in the 55 meter hurdle preliminaries, running 8.95.
  • Annie then broke her newly set indoor school record in the 55 hurdle finals, running 8.78 to finish second, just .02 out of first place.
  • Annie broke her own indoor school record in the 200 dash (27.94, set at Addison Trail), running 27.58, which earned her a third place finish.
  • Alicia Orozco, in the first 400 dash of her career, ran a very solid 73.87.
  • Annie broke her own indoor school record in the 400 dash (63.68, set last season at Reed-Custer), running 63.22, for another third place finish.

Distance Events:

  • Lily Arndt set a new PR in the 800, running a very solid 2:57.41.
  • Brittany Eiermann gave the 800 a shot for the first time, and she turned in a very solid 3:08.90.
  • Hannah Abbatacola turned in another PR in the 1600, lowering her best mark to 6:33.33.
  • Imogene Asa set not just a season PR, but a lifetime PR in the 3200 run, running 13:03.40 to earn third place in what was the final indoor race of her career.

Relays:

At Argo today, all relays ran a Frosh-Soph and Varsity level. We elected to contest all of our relays at the Frosh-Soph level today. All of our ladies competing in our relays today were freshmen. All of them turned in excellent performances. The future of Westmont girls track and field is bright!

  • The 4 x 160 of Alicia (25.6), Sydney (26.6), Halle Nash (26.0), and Bayan (27.1) combined to run a 1:45.29. Once the indoor season is complete, if this holds up, this will establish the 4 x 160 indoor school record.
  • The 4 x 400 of Lisa Niemiec (75.8), Halle (71.7), Sydney (75.7), and Peyton Nash (74.6) ran 4:57.70, just 0.8 off of a relay PR and they earned a sixth place finish!
  • The 4 x 800 of Lisa (2:58.2), Halle (2:42.4), Hannah (3:00.5), and Peyton (2:48.6) set a new relay PR of 11:29.85, and finished in third place!

Overall, all the coaches today are very pleased with the performances our ladies turned in at Argo today. Congratulations on an outstanding meet, ladies! Your hard work is already paying off. We can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings!

We will not be competing next weekend, so we will return to action on Saturday, March 21st, at Reed-Custer, home of the 174 meter track. We're already looking forward to it - should be a great meet with great competition and we will get to see some of our Conference schools, so we'll see how we stack up against our conference.

This coming weekend, however, is the Spring Snowball retreat. We know many of our tracksters -- both boys and girls -- are participating. We want you to enjoy the weekend, and have a great time. However, Coach Dunne (he will be spending the weekend up there as well) will be holding a mandatory practice on Saturday morning for those of you that will be up at the camp. You are expected to be there. Coach Dunne will give you the details for practice on Friday night.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend, ladies - get some rest!
